課程概述 |
This is a beginning course in Mandarin, there’s no prerequisite of this course. This class is designed to help students acquire Knowledge of spoken and written Chinese and to assist them in gaining proficiency and accuracy using these skills in real-life situations. The curriculum emphasizes the development of the competency of listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, especially on topics of daily concerns.
The first two weeks, the course will focus on foundation work, (“Pinyin “system, tones, structure of characters. ) this stage is essential to later progress in all other aspects of the language. During the semester, students will learn to greet others, introduce themselves, and handle basic social situations: talk about themselves, needs and preferences, giving directions. 課程目標 |
1. Acquire knowledge of pronunciation and intonation of Chinese language.
2. Learning grammatical principles of Chinese language.
3. Conversing on personal topics in limited situations.
4. Reading short narrative and descriptive texts.

課程要求 |
QUIZZES: There will be 6 quizzes in this semester, and you are also responsible for all the characters we have learned up until and inclusive of the previous day’s lecture.
TESTS: There will be a test every 1 or 2 lessons, and a mid-term and a final exam. All tests will be given only on the assigned days. There’s no make-up test unless the student has an unavoidable reason and ask for in advance. The tests will be all in traditional characters.
Oral Exam: There will be 2 oral exams in this semester, one is on 28th and 30th October, and the other one is on 6th January. Each student will have 3-5 minutes to talk to the teacher individually, so on that day the class will be about 30 minutes short. On 6th January is final oral exam, it takes all the class time, and every student has more time to talk.
Final Project: Final project is a group work. Students should shoot a film, every student has to say 10 sentences at least and all conversation must be in Chinese language.

ASSIGNMENTS:
Workbook (Required): Assignments from the workbook and the character exercise sheets will be graded. You are expected to do the exercises all by yourself, and be sure to write your name and staple all pages before turning in. Late assignments will not be accepted, unless a medical or official excuse is provided in advance of class.
ATTENDANCE: Attendance at all classes is required and is important. Unless a medical or official excuse is provided (more than twice a week, doctor’s note or Dean’s excuse is needed.), 0.5 point will be deducted from your total grade for each missed class. Being late for three times will be counted as one absence.
If you have to miss a class, you have to send a NTU Online Notification Form(through student leave request system) to your instructor in advance of the class. Quizzes and tests cannot be made up unless prior arrangements have been made with the instructor. Make-up works have to be done by the next class meeting day.
PARTICIPATION: You are expected to preview the materials before class, and review after class on a daily basis. Preview the text, vocab., and the grammars won’t take very long but it will help you learn so much faster in class and be able to participate more. Fully engage in the conversations and activities in Chinese is the best way to learn! Class performance grade includes your effort to speak in Chinese and active participation in class. Note: do not eat, use any mobile devices in class!
